I would like the collective name for Brummies who subscribe to the Dispatch to be Brummagems....what do other folk think? It describes us to a tee I think Keith Bracey Brummagem
The wind effect is amplified by large buildings in urban areas, I have noticed it near some of the new construction, e g. by Albert Schloss/ Rosa's Thai in the centre where it's now a real wind canyon. Used to live in Brussels and it was the same there too, you would walk around the corner of a high-rise and be practically blown off your feet. I wonder if the planners considered this when deciding what to build in Birmingham city centre, and whether they looked ahead to the effect of a changing climate.
Ooo, names are tricky. Lots of not-so-nice things start with "Dis". One could make up all sorts of fun names "Brummie Bears" or whatever but those don't connect to the newsletter's name, which is The Disptach. I think a direct connection would be good. Some names are funny, Spatulas. But the joke gets tired fast. I have to vote for Patchers. We are interested in our patch after all. And we want to patch things up, the mending, fix it kind of spirit. I guess to rhyme with Brummies, it could be Patchies. My two cents.
When I first saw the name 'Dispatch' in your advertising, it immediately brought back memories of the paper sellers in town shouting out "Spatch'a'Mail" when they were selling the Evening Mail and Dispatch.
Re group name. Patchers sounds about right, given we are all going to have to make do and mend for the foreseeable!

Or maybe just Gems, shorter and a nod to the Jewellery Quarter?

Blinders?
A vote here for Patchers. And a gentle reminder that it's Brummie, not Brummy!
Noted -- a genuine thanks for the correction. You've sent me down an internet rabbit hole on how we go this demonym. Cheers Roz.
I like Patchers, or what about Buddies? As in BD for Birmingham Dispatch?
