Good morning readers — welcome to Tuesday’s Dispatch.
In some exciting news for me (editor Kate for anyone new here), from tomorrow three Brum in Briefs a week will be compiled by our new recruit, the brilliant freelance journalist, Dan Cave. Dan’s first foray into the exciting world of mini briefings last Friday was a smash hit and he’s got plans to supercharge these morning bulletins to make them as useful to you as possible. So, give him a shout on X/Twitter if there is anything you think he should be including — he’s very friendly. His help will also allow me to spend more time on our in depth reporting which is what we are really passionate about.
And if you want to communicate with us, and your fellow readers, in the comments underneath our articles, then go ahead and join us as a paying member. You’ll get four extra issues of The Dispatch a week, plus access to events when they are up and running. Plus you’ll be part of a community of Brummies who care about quality journalism and brilliant storytelling. What more could you want?

Just a note about your measles link to The Times. To read it you need to set up a free trial, which will lead to turning down or taking up a subscription I think.

Very few interviews about measles mention the long-term sequel of SSPE (sub-acute sclerosing panencephalitis) which occurs years after measles infection. When I was working on children's wards pre widespread vaccination there was usually at least one child slowly declining with this and dying, as it is incurable. This disease almost vanished in highly vaccinated populations and I would hate to see it return, not to mention the much greater number of children who do become very ill with the primary measles infection.
Congratulations Dan! I'm so pleased the way this community keeps growing. You all deserve it 😃
